
Sergio Saponara

Bio
Sergio Saponara received his M.Sc. degree with honors in Electronic Engineering from the University of Pisa in 1999 and later earned a Ph.D. in Information Engineering. He was a Marie Curie Research Fellow at IMEC in Belgium and joined the University of Pisa as a researcher in 2005, becoming Associate Professor in 2011 and Full Professor in 2017.
His research activities cover integrated and embedded electronic systems, IoT and smart sensing, automotive and space electronics, cybersecurity, high-performance and edge processing, robotics and automation. He has led and contributed to numerous national and European research projects and technology-transfer activities with major industrial partners.
In 2024, he was elected Director of the Department of Information Engineering (DII) at the University of Pisa, taking office on November 1, 2024.

With over two decades of dedication in the semiconductor industry, Elio’s journey has evolved into a pivotal role as Senior Director of System Research Application at STMicroelectronics. His core mission is to drive innovation in high-performance SoC products, ensuring they meet the demands of the Mobile Consumer, Industrial, and Automotive markets. His expertise in Embedded Systems and ASIC provides a solid foundation for developing secure and efficient microprocessors and wireless communication solutions. Currently, he manages R&D across three critical areas, leading design teams in Milan, Catania, Lecce, Pisa, and Beijing, with a focus spanning from the development of microprocessors/DSPs based on both RISC-V and proprietary instruction sets to RF transceivers and digital baseband design.
Luca Serica

Luca Serica holds an M.Sc. in Electronic Engineering. Born in Catania and currently based in Milan, Luca began his career in a technology start-up before building more than 20 years of experience in the semiconductor industry. Throughout his career, he has held a variety of leadership positions in Automotive Product Divisions and as Head of Strategy. Today, Luca is the Head of Mass Market Automotive Business Development at NXP Semiconductors.
Andrea Suppa

Andrea Suppa holds a B.Sc. in Computer Engineering and an M.Sc. in Automation Engineering from the University of Pisa, as well as a Global Executive MBA from CEIBS (China Europe International Business School). Born in Sanremo (IM) and currently based in Munich, he has spent more than 10 years living and working internationally across the UK, China, and Germany. Andrea began his career with a leading Italian supercar manufacturer and has since built over 15 years of experience in the automotive electrification industry, working across OEMs, Tier 1s, and semiconductor companies. Throughout his career, he has held a broad range of engineering, product, strategy, and business leadership roles, driving innovation and growth in advanced automotive technologies. Today, Andrea serves as Head of Automotive Electrification Systems at NXP Semiconductors, where he leads the development of next-generation electrification solutions for the automotive industry.
Jacopo Ferretti

Jacopo Ferretti is a Power Electronics Engineer at High Performance Engineering in Modena, Italy. He holds a Ph.D. in Automotive Engineering for Intelligent Mobility from the University of Bologna, where his thesis focused on New Semiconductor Technologies for Automotive Power Applications. He earned his M.Sc. in Electric Vehicle Engineering from the Motor Vehicle University of Emilia-Romagna (MUNER) and his B.Sc. in Computer and Automation Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Marche (UNIVPM), and spent six months as a visiting researcher at Aalborg University, Denmark. His work focuses on wide-bandgap semiconductors for automotive applications, with research interests in power converter simulation, PMSM motor control, and semiconductor reliability assessment.
Enrico Dente

Enrico Dente earned a master’s degree in Electronic Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Turin in 2015. After conducting research at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, where he worked on the development of origami-inspired robots and HMI devices based on differential electromyography, he served as CTO at an Italian power electronics startup, honing his skills in R&D management, business development, and business process optimization. He contributed to the development of Capacitive Wireless Power Transfer technology and filed five patents on power/data transmission systems with capacitive coupling and innovative automotive infotainment architectures.
Following this experience, Enrico entered the Open Innovation and Venture Capital industry, moving to Silicon Valley to join Plug and Play Tech Center, an international Open Innovation platform and startup investor, with the goal of bridging the gap between startups and large corporations, while furthering his education by taking courses at Stanford University. In 2020, he returned to Italy, where he served as Director at Plug and Play Tech Center, working to expand the business in Italy from one to four offices and managing the Motor Valley Accelerator.
Matteo Padovese

Matteo Padovese earned his degree in Aerospace Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Milan in 2011. He began his professional career at the BMW Research and Development Center in Munich, where he worked on validating features related to the Efficient Dynamics programs, including Start & Stop, Sailing, and Energy Recuperation. He then joined Maserati, initially contributing to the development of human-machine interfaces (HMIs) for the entire vehicle lineup. Later, he took on responsibility for the integration of ADAS systems, supporting their introduction on the Levante SUV and their subsequent expansion to the Ghibli and Quattroporte models.
Since 2017, he has been with Automobili Lamborghini, where he has continued to work on the integration of driver-assistance and active safety systems. Since 2021, he has served as Project Manager for the entire electrical and electronic architecture of Lamborghini’s product lines, first overseeing the Huracán family and subsequently the Temerario project, a role he still holds today.
